PEGI simply
stands for Pan European Game Information. It is a video game content rating system
from Europe. It was created to help European consumers make decisions when buying video games or apps based on age restrictions and other warnings. PEGI was developed by ISFE (Interactive Software
Federation of Europe) and was established in 2003. PEGI system is now used in
more than 30 countries, it is composed by five age categories that advise the suitability
and content of a game from a certain age range based on the games content.
PEGI THREE:
This means that the game is suitable for
people three or older, it is usually cartoon graphics and does not have any
violent or inappropriate behaviour in at all.
PEGI TWELEVE: Suitable for people over the age
of 12, some parental guidance, there may be scenes of violence or slightly inappropriate
behaviour.
PEGI 16: this means that the game is
suitable for people over 16. Strong parental guidance is needed.
PEGI 18: this means the game is only allowed
for adults as it may have scenes of violent and sexual behaviour.
Icons on
games show simply that the game may involve that type of behaviour, it is like
a warning for people that the game may involve that.
Game contains sexual scenes and depending on
the age rating, it may contain nudity, sexualized posturing or intercourse.
