P1-D-Learners explore the games industry through a focused case study of one computer/console game: Games on multi-platforms

P1-D-

First party developers- In relation to video game developing, a first-party developer is part of a company which makes and develops a video game console.. First party developers can use the name of the company (an example could be the company Nintendo). Also they can have a specific division name such as Sony or even an independent studio being made by the console manufacturer such as Rare.

Second-party developer- A second party developer is a developer who is linked to a specific manufacturer through owning the company or partial owning it through a contract. The main difference between a second party and first developer is that second party developer is a separate entity from console manufacturer, however the first party developer is not a separate entity from console manufacturer.

It is also a l term used by gamers and the media they describe two different forms of development studios.:

1.)    Independently owned studios who use contracts from the platform holders and then they produce games only available to that platform.

2.)    Studios that are only partially owned by the platform holder, this is also known as a subsidiary, and they will produce games only available to that platform.

Third party developers-

Popular games and franchises are usually third party and this is why they are so popular. Third party developers fund themselves and are not afflicted with anyone else and have no help from platform holders and market their games independently. The audience of third party developers will be spread over lots of different platforms which gives a bigger audience than a first party game, this is a major advantage. Third party developers are also bound by no sort of contract and have no part in working with platform holders about from releasing their game on their platform.
